Nailfold Capillaroscopy Technique Nailfold Capillaroscopy Technique

Nailfold capillaroscopy technique is a diagnostic tool that enables a clinician to examine the blood vessels under the skin in the nailfold area. It is a non-invasive method that can provide valuable insights into various clinical conditions. In this article, we will discuss the working principles, advantages, who needs it, and its applications.

What is microcirculation?

Microcirculation is the circulation of blood in the smallest vessels, the microvessels of the microvascular system present in organ tissues. The microvasculature includes small terminal arteries, small posterior arteries, capillaries and small veins.

What is nailfold capillaroscopic microcirculation microscopy?

Nailfold capillaroscopy microcirculation microscope is an advanced medical optoelectronic instrument, built-in special LED light source, mainly used to observe the human nailfold capillary microcirculation or video nailfold capillaroscopy, such as capillary blood flow, vascular structure of the microcirculation abnormality. , cell adhesion, through its powerful 380X (or 240X) optical magnification. Undistorted live motion video streaming is transmitted to the LCD monitor screen via a Sony CCD imaging device. Simply insert your finger into the holder underneath the optical lens unit, fine-tune the fixed focus, and see the desired image in seconds. The Capillary Microcirculation Microscope is a non-invasive diagnostic tool that has been well received by various physicians. It specialises in the study of the skin capillary network.

Product Application

(1) Observation of microcirculation at the end of A wall
(2) Skin end microcirculation observation
(3) Sweat gland observation
(4) Follicle observation

How to use

1) Fix the screen on the top of the mechanical equipment

2) Plug the power cord and video cable into the base connector.

3) Connect the plug, the plug shows green light. Press the “Power” button on the screen, wait for 3 seconds, the screen will light up.

4) Put three drops of oil on the ring finger where the nail crosses the skin. Place the oiled finger into the finger holder. (If cedar oil is not available, use baby oil or olive oil instead)

5) Adjust the coarse handwheel so that when the screen displays an image, then adjust the fine handwheel and the image becomes clearer. The larger one is the coarse adjustment wheel and the smaller one is the fine adjustment handwheel. When the machine is about 2-3cm away from the finger, a clear transparent image will appear on the screen.

6) Then adjust the platform to move the handwheel laterally so that the first line of the blood vessel (capillary) is in the correct position, and then adjust the coarse and fine handwheels so that the blood vessel can be clearly seen. Your finger will move from left to right on the double loading platform. Therefore try to find the first blood vessel by rotating the platform laterally moving the handwheel to change the position of your finger. Finally rotate the fine handwheel (position shown in the structure) to see the vessel clearly.

7) If there are spots on the screen, rotate the camera left and right to remove them.

Working Principles

Nailfold capillaroscopy technique involves using a special microscope to observe the capillaries under the skin in the nailfold area. The microscope has a lens that magnifies the image, and a light source to illuminate the area being observed. A drop of oil is applied to the nailfold area to improve the resolution of the image. The clinician can then observe the blood vessels and assess their morphology, density, and distribution. This can provide valuable information about the circulation and the health of the tissues.

Advantages

1. Non-invasive: Nailfold capillaroscopy technique is a non-invasive method that does not require any incisions or injections.

2. Safe: The procedure is safe and does not expose the patient to any ionizing radiation.

3. High resolution: The images obtained by nailfold capillaroscopy technique are of high resolution and can provide valuable information about the microcirculation.

4. Easy to perform: The procedure is easy to perform and can be done in a clinic or office setting.

5. Valuable diagnostic tool: Nailfold capillaroscopy technique can provide valuable diagnostic information about various clinical conditions such as autoimmune diseases, vascular diseases, and connective tissue disorders.

For example, patients with symptoms such as Raynaud’s syndrome, digital ulcers, or skin rashes may benefit from nailfold capillaroscopy examination. Additionally, patients with autoimmune diseases, vascular diseases, or connective tissue disorders may also benefit from nailfold capillaroscopy examination.

Applications

1. Autoimmune diseases: Nailfold capillaroscopy technique can be useful in the diagnosis and monitoring of autoimmune diseases such as systemic sclerosis, lupus erythematosus, and dermatomyositis.

2. Vascular diseases: Nailfold capillaroscopy technique can be useful in the diagnosis and monitoring of vascular diseases such as Raynaud’s syndrome, vasculitis, and peripheral artery disease.

3. Connective tissue disorders: Nailfold capillaroscopy technique can be useful in the diagnosis and monitoring of connective tissue disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, scleroderma, and Sjogren’s syndrome.

4. Dermatology: Nailfold capillaroscopy technique can be useful in the diagnosis and monitoring of various skin conditions such as psoriasis, lichen planus, and eczema.
